Mobile Sports Betting in Massachusetts is now legal

Mobile sports betting began in Massachusetts on March 10, and now it’s easier than ever to bet with cell phone on your favorite team.

In-person sports betting had already begun in the state’s casinos. By adding the mobile option, tens of millions of dollars in tax revenue is expected from the 15% tax on in-person wagering and a 20% tax on mobile wagering.

Only over 21 can bet online and  physically in Massachusetts.  

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission granted certificates of operations to six operators.

Online sports betting begins in Massachusetts

Legalized mobile sports betting was implemented in Massachusetts on Friday, and the state’s Gaming Commission rushed to make sure everything was ready in time for the first wagers to go live.

There are independent operators and the state’s three casinos, MGM Springfield, Encore Boston Harbor and Plainridge Park Casino, also have the option of offering mobile sports betting apps.  

Sports to bet on in Massachusetts

In Massachusetts you can bet on most professional sports, NFL, NBA, MLB, MLS and NHL, as well as other sports such as swimming, volleyball, badminton and more. Certain special events will also allow bets to be placed.

Basket tournament in March

Now, March is NCAA basketball tournament season and the Better Business Bureau is recommending bettors to avoid high-stakes wagers. Sports betting fans will be able to place bets, but bearing in mind that betting on regular-season state college sports is illegal.

There have already been reports of problems with illegal wagers made during casino betting pitches.
