Bobs Worth it, alright

7/4 Bob can retain the Cheltenham Gold Cup

This is it. The big one. The final day of Cheltenham centres around the Gold Cup, but there is plenty of other racing to make it the best day of the lot. How did our tips do yesterday I hear you ask? Not too bad. We tipped More than That in the 3.20 World Hurdle, who stormed home beating our other tip and hot favourite – Annie Power – into second place. Can we do even better today?

First up is the JCB Triumph Hurdle, where 4 year old Calipto is the favourite at 4/1. Paul Nicholls’ horse stormed it at Newbury in February, but inexperience might play a part in a strong field. We fancy Pearl Castle for an E/W at 11/1 shot after good recent form.

 

We’re paying 5 PLACES in the 2.05 County Handicap Hurdle, and it looks to be a battle between Arctic Fire and Cheltenian at the top of the order, at 13/2 and 15/2 respectively. With 5 places to play with, an E/W on 18/1 Flaxen Flare as it has placed in all its races this season.

 

On to the Novices’ Hurdle at 2.40, where Briar Hill looks a cert to storm it, with nothing but wins on his card. Kings Palace (3/1) and Captain Cutter(10/1) might sneak up the inside with good to soft going, so keep an eye on them.

 

All attention will naturally be on the 3.20 Gold Cup, the showpiece of the festival. Big money looks to be on Bobs Worth (7/4) to repeat his win in this race last year and join the immortal name of Arkle, who did the same 50 years ago. Henderson’s horse will have to compete with Silviniaco Conti at 3/1, who will seek to right the wrongs of last year, where he fell at the third-last fence on the downhill. Can he stay on his feet this year and chase Bob to the line? We still fancy Bob to nick it at the death after his lightning quick home straight at Haydock in November.
